The FastArm is the perfect baseball training device to use before you throw a baseball.
What the FastArm does is prepare your body to throw hard. In the past, we warmed up our arms by slow tossing, then gradually increasing speed and finally throwing hard.
The problem is, when thrown at slow speeds, a baseball does not build up much mass and thereby does little to prepare the joins and muscles for faster speeds and higher loads.
When you throw harder, your muscles are stretched more and at a higher rate of speed. Your body has a reaction called the “stretch reflex.” If the muscle is not properly warmed up, and is suddenly stretched, the brain sends a signal back to the muscle causing it to contract in an attempt to protect it.
This tug of war effect prevents you from warming up properly and can result in muscle tears known as “micro tears,” which cause tendonitis and inflammation of the joint.
The FastArm prevents this from happening by providing a pre-load or pre-stretch to the muscles, thereby providing stimulus to the brain that a contraction will occur.
This pre-stretch stimulus functions to inhibit the muscle reflex, providing a safe warm-up. More importantly, the FastArm strengthens the muscle and tendon relationship to ensure joint stability.
